Dragonflies and dancing…two of my favorite things.
Dragonflies are my spirit animal. I have always been fascinated by them. The way they flit about, hovering in place at times, then zooming off in the utmost of hurries. In 2015 I was sitting in my back patio a red dragonfly flittered past. Until that point I had always seen blue and purple dragonflies. Beautiful for sure. But that red one! Oh, but it was eye-catching. I watched as it zipped to and fro over my pool, around my greenery, and through the air.
Eventually it alit on a branch in one of my trees. And it stayed there. I sat waiting, thinking it was going to fly away at any moment, yet it hung around, perfectly happy perched on its spot. I grabbed my phone and managed to get a few out of focus shots, moving closer and closer as I did so. Still it sat. It waited for me to finish my photo shoot, and then casually flitted off.
I have not seen another red one since.
Dragonflies are symbolic of Death and Change. Death in this sense does not necessarily mean a physical death of body, but rather of something symbolic in one’s life. For instance, changing careers could be in essence a form of death. Death of one career, birth of another. Yes, that is also change. So I suppose change is also a form a death.
I believe it showed up to catch my attention. To alert me that change was a-coming. And it certainly was. It was about that time that I began writing again. I was unsure of how to get started, but as I went along the pieces have fallen into place when I was ready for them. I began writing poetry again (a little). And I am currently at work on a fiction novel.
Although I have yet to see another red dragonfly in the wild, I have noticed an abundance of blue and green and purple ones in my yard. They never cease to amaze me…
What I dream for this site is to create a place for my musings and stories and other writing excerpts. I plan to dance through my writing as I dance my way through my life. With freedom. With wild abandon. I have no idea where this journey will take me, but I can’t wait to find out! I welcome you to join me…
